checkerboard red

Clear casting resin, painted mdf, toughened glass, fluorescent tube lighting.
I wanted to create a counterpoint to the Gradation of Green and Bombay Sapphire cast resin works and see if the process could be expanded to include supplier-produced components.

Having outsourced the joinery and painting of the MDF body I hand poured the resin into the 100 moulds across the surface.
For this piece I chose to intersperse the colours with light and dark discs sitting next to each other in a checkerboard formation. I then installed the hidden fluorescent strips to light the colours from underneath.

The distribution of intense colour gives a sense of chaotic uniformity that I find interesting.
